Abstract:

The National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) in Winnipeg, Canada, is a world-class organization dedicated to the protection of Canadian and global public health. It is Canada’s leading public health infectious disease laboratory employing state of-the-art scientific and technical approaches to the study of microbial disease. In this presentation, Dr. Gary Van Domselaar will discuss his experiences building a Canadian federal government bioinformatics laboratory. He will also provide a technical overview of the lab and will discuss some of the ways bioinformatics is being applied for modern public health microbial research.
